Opening officially in June 2024, Basq House is your chic hideaway for a getaway that balances privacy and connection, relaxation and adventure. Nestled just moments from Byron’s famous beaches, vibrant eateries, and lush hinterlands, it offers the perfect launchpad for soaking up everything this coastal paradise has to offer.
From the moment you arrive, you instantly relax. Basq House has soul. The staff? Super-stylish and so friendly. Everywhere you look, there’s something you love—a design detail, an artwork, or a cosy corner. This isn’t just a place to stay; it’s a place you want to experience. The only negative? Leaving to go home.
Tucked away in a hidden laneway, Basq House is your launchpad for exploring Byron’s bohemian buzz. Think scenic hinterlands, a buzzing restaurant scene, and sun-soaked beaches just moments away. Yet, it’s not just a base—it’s an experience.
The brainchild of Melbourne mates Matt Walsh and Shane Wilkinson, Basq House was born from a desire for a “home away from home” in Byron. With design maestro Matt Dalby of StudioFAB at the helm and interiors styled by local designer Léo Terrando, the result is a sophisticated retreat inspired by the timeless elegance of Moroccan riads.
Step inside, and you’ll be greeted by an indoor-outdoor aesthetic that exudes warmth and artistry. Many rooms overlook a stunning magnesium pool—complete with sun-drenched cabanas and logo-embossed tiles—creating a tranquil oasis perfect for soaking up the Byron sun.
The reception area feels more like a luxe lounge, adorned with works by Byron Bay artist Damian Bisogni, Tigmi Trading’s woven pendants, and curated objets d’art. Whether you’re sipping a Margarita or a Negroni, the vibe is effortlessly relaxed.
The Lounge Room—a speakeasy-inspired space—flows seamlessly outdoors and is decked out with pieces from Bodhi Living and bespoke rugs by Byron brand Pampa, offering an intimate spot for socialising or kicking back. Meanwhile, the Library is an eclectic wonderland of leather sofas, an open fireplace, and floor-to-ceiling bookcases stocked with classics, art, and travel tomes.

In true Byron style, the rooms are all about understated luxury. Neutral tones, bespoke timber joinery, and luxe touches like Mr Smith toiletries and minibars stocked with local goodies set the tone. The pillows are perfection! Whether you’re streaming your favourite series on the HD TV or unwinding after a day of adventure, every detail is designed for comfort.
Basq House takes Byron’s wellness ethos seriously. The rooftop retreat features spaces for yoga and meditation, while a dedicated wellness centre offers infrared saunas, ice plunges, and more. Guests can also borrow Lekker push bikes, surfboards, and beach shades—or take one of the shared vehicles to explore nearby gems like Bangalow and Brunswick Heads.
From Light Years and Bar Heather to Pixie Food & Wine, Basq House places you steps from some of Byron’s best eats. And when you’re ready to relax, the hotel’s curated communal spaces make it easy to mingle over pre-batched Maybe Sammy cocktails and bar snacks.
