we slept here: BELLS AT KILLCARE

If you’re in need of a proper reset, Bells at Killcare is one of those places that helps you slow down without even trying. It’s only about ninety minutes from Sydney, but between the bushland, the sea air and the peaceful atmosphere, it feels like you’ve stepped into a completely different pace…

The Vibe

Bells has a calm, understated feel. The gardens are beautifully kept, the accommodation blends into the landscape and everything feels quietly considered. Inside, the spaces are soft, coastal and the colour palette creates a sense of calm that makes you settle in straight away. Nothing feels fussy or overly styled, just super-chilled packed with everything you could wish for on a getwaway.

Where we stayed

We stayed in one of the newer lodges, including Bouddi Lodge, which is tucked away and very private. The lodge is split over a few levels, so it feels more like your own little retreat than a traditional hotel room. There’s a relaxed living area with a fireplace, a kitchen and dining space for slow breakfasts, two bedrooms and generous bathrooms with a freestanding bath and rain shower.

The heated magnesium plunge pool was a highlight. The rooftop terrace was insane to watch the sunset and to have drinks under the stars. It’s the kind of place where you can easily spend the entire day moving between the pool, the sofa and the terrace.

The Little Things

The service at Bells is one of the reasons the stay feels so special. The staff are genuinely lovely, warm and thoughtful. Fresh bread and the newspaper arrive at your doorstep each morning, which is such a simple but beautiful touch. In the evenings, turndown service includes chocolates on the pillow and soft lighting, which makes coming home after dinner feel extra cosy. It’s these small details that make the whole experience just that bit more elevated and super-special.

Getting Out & About

If you want to explore, Bouddi National Park is right there with walking tracks, lookouts and some of the most beautiful beaches on the Central Coast. Killcare, Lobster Beach and Putty Beach are all close. You can fill your days with walks and swims or take it slow and stay in. The lodges make staying in non-guilty pleasure.

Sweet Dreams

The beds deserve their own moment. In our lodge there was a King sized bed + two King Singles {that could be pushed together for another couple.} Our bed was heavenly, with crisp sheets and pillows that are just right, soft enough to sink into but still supportive. It’s the sort of setup that makes you sleep deeply {the whole night through} and wake up feeling like you’ve slept for a week. One of those bed set-ups you think about weeks after you get home.

Eating and Unwinding

The Wild Flower restaurant is delicious and is a destination within it’s own right. The setting is relaxed and the seasonal menu and wine selection are exceptional…  breakfast is also insanely good.  The Pool Bar is super-cute and is situated near the main pool and there’s also a day spa on site. We didn’t get time to visit, but it’s definitely on the list for next time. We SO want to go back!
