museum art hotel

when we stayed at the cool & quirky QT MUSEUM HOTEL

The QT Museum Hotel is a 165 room boutique hotel located in the centre of Wellington city opposite Wellington’s beautiful harbour and New Zealand’s national museum, Te Papa. The bespoke hotel with it’s spacious lobby features opulent décor, walls adorned with original New Zealand art, making it a totally unique place to stay. The hotel was acquired by the cool kids at QT in June last year but will keep its quirky style when the new owners put their name over the front door. It’s New Zealand’s first hotel to operate under the upmarket {also quirky and bespoke} brand, which has five hotels in Australia.
Former owner Chris Parkin’s art, which was voted amongst the Top 10 Hotels for art collections in the world by Yahoo!7 Travel, was not part of the sale but it will stay in the hotel for three years. In the meantime, QT plans to gradually add to the collection. Art was an important part of the QT brand and its art curator Amanda Love will be advised by Parkin on any interesting art to purchase, so the vibe will stay alive.
Here’s a quick visual tour of the QT Museum Hotel…

Opulent, bohemian, steeped in history and amazing art – but still totally down-to-earth and friendly…
here’s a little more on how we rate the Museum Art Hotel:

THE LOCALITY RATING: The hotel is located in the centre of Wellington city opposite Wellington’s beautiful harbour and New Zealand’s national museum, Te Papa. So you’re close to everything, the markets, amazing restaurants, cafés and city shopping + all the tourist hotspots.
THE BAR RATING: Hippopotamus Bar is amazing, the cocktails are clever and oh so pretty, like the decor. {Love those chairs!} We were guided by the barman, and we weren’t disappointed! {See below!}

THE VIBE RATING: Quirky and cool, the vibe was super-friendly and welcoming.
THE KID-FACTOR RATING: {You can choose from hotel or apartment style rooms.} We stayed in an apartment suite which had seperate bedrooms, a living room and kitchen, which was perfect for the four of us! And the staff couldn’t do enough to cater for the kids. When we arrived the boys both had a plush hippo waiting on their bed, a really cute touch which was really appreciated by the boys!
 I hadn’t heard of the beauty brand before but the products were all pretty good. A great size and the fragrance was great for all of us {i.e.. not too girly}!
THE PILLOW RATING: Good good good – there were a few on the bed to choose from, they were on the medium side but not too firm, and I loved the crisp cotton sheets.
THE CONCIERGE RATING: Five gold stars, so helpful, so knowledgeable, we almost felt like locals.

If you’re staying in Wellington, we highly recommend the QT Museum Hotel… if you’re just flying in for a day trip, definitely stop in for a drink at the Hippopotamus Bar – or a coffee in the foyer.
