get moving: TIME TO SPRING CLEAN YOUR FITNESS ROUTINE

How often do we give our wardrobes a good spring clean? Just like our wardrobes, our fitness and strength routines could use a refresh too! Our fitness expert, Nikki Ellis, is here to guide you through everything you need to do…

1. Audit your routine

The first thing I would suggest is look at what you are currently doing with appraising eyes. Is your current routine actually getting you the results you want? Have you been doing the same weights program for months now? Or perhaps you are just in the market for a fresh start and a change of scene? Particularly if you have been stuck doing the same weights program for longer than 10 weeks, talk to a gym instructor, or contact an online PT to write you a new program, it will make the World of difference both physiologically and psychologically!

2. Set some new goals

Inspired by the Olympics? Now is the time to set that a goal of running a marathon, learning to boulder, or perhaps take your strength up a notch with some Olympic lifting. Whatever it is, having something specific to work towards can totally reignite your motivation

3. Declutter your gear

Look at your training gear with fresh eyes. Some new clean white socks (and maybe updating from ankle socks to crew!) giving your runners a wash and perhaps getting yourself some stylish active wear can truly give your motivation a big boost. I bought my yoga loving hubby a new yoga mat from Yogi Peace Club and it’s so gorgeous it makes yoga a luxurious joy.

4. Revamp your playlist

Music is so crucial for motivation, create a new playlist to become a soundtrack to your fitness journey.
You can also try: Asking your friends or instagram pals if they have workout playlists they are happy to share with you. Check out the Apple fitness app (under Fitness +) for artist and music spotlights that are updated regularly. This app also has lots of workouts, meditations and podcasts – it’s pretty fabulous!

5. Try a new class

Get outside your comfort zone and go do a zumba class, a candlelight spin, or aqua aerobics. How about laughing yoga? A soundbath? Or an online spin session? It’s great to keep things super fresh and if not your cup of tea might at least make a great story at your next dinner party.

6. Reset your mindset

Now is a great time to check in with your spiritual gym as well as your physical one. Realign with what you truly need – more time with loved ones? More rest and recovery? Are you pushing yourself too hard? Or maybe not hard enough – re evaluate and reset and let’s spring in to Summer!
