Concealer makes you look old Don’t even think of applying concealer under your eyes without eye cream. (Just give the cream a few moments to absorb beforehand.) The dryness and thickness of concealer alone will make the skin looked cracked.
Concealer exaggerates pimples Under eye concealer is to thick to camouflage a blemish; also, because it’s one shade lighter than your skin, it actually highlights the zit. Instead, dot the zit with a blemish cover-up (which should contain salicylic acid) or stick foundation that matches your skin exactly. Pat (don’t rub) the cover-up gently with a finger to soften it, and set it with powder.
Pencil alone smears and disappears If you want eyeliner to last, apply powder shadow with a damp eyeliner brush. But if you prefer to use a pencil liner, you will have to layer a similarly coloured powder eye shadow on top of it because pencil is emollient and will inevitably drift.
Liquid eyeliner is impossible Unless you’re committed to hours of practice, applying liquid eyeliner well – in a straight line with no skin showing alone the lash line – is extremely difficult.
Eye shadow will crease unless you powder lids first All eye shadows need a base. But contrary to popular myth, foundation, eye cream, or concealer on your lids does not make you shadow stay in place longer. All you’ll end up with is greasy eyelids. Loose powder swiped lightly over the lids is the best base.
Lip liner comes after lipstick That way you can look at lips and see where you need the correction. To avoid that old-fashioned ring-around-the-lip thing, draw with a colour that matches your lipstick and don’t encircle the whole mouth.
Thin lips can’t look thick Never outline outside the natural lip line or on the corners of lips – you’ll look like the joker not Julia Roberts. Instead, choose a light- or medium-tone lipstick tone colours (darker colours only minimise lip size) and apply touch of shiny gloss in the middle of lower lip.
