beauty insider: FACE MASK SKIN-CARE TIPS

Nikki Yazxhi

WHEN YOU WEAR MASKS/FACE COVERINGS FOR LONGER PERIODS OF TIME, YOUR SKIN, ESPECIALLY THE AREAS AROUND YOUR NOSE AND MOUTH, BECOME QUITE SENSITIVE OR PRONE TO BREAKOUTS {MASKNE}.

Grown Alchemist founders Jeremy & Keston give their expert advice to keep your skin soft, supple and blemish-free…

While breathing in and out, the humidity of your breath is trapped inside the masks/face coverings, causing bacteria and skin problems such as acne, rashes and itchiness. Adopting a dedicated skincare routine which targets these concerns is important in order to make sure your skin is as comfortable as possible. Here’s what Jeremy and Keston, founders of our favourite skincare range Grown Alchemist {pictured above} recommend…

Clean your skin properly.

Before and after wearing masks/face coverings, it is important that your skin is cleansed, balanced and hydrated. A cleaned skin provides the perfect environment for other skincare products to follow. Grown Alchemist Hydra-Restore Cream Cleanser cleans and conditions skin without dehydrating or irritating, leaving skin feeling soothed, purified and perfectly prepared for moisturising.

Exfoliate your skin.

For congestion or irritation around your nose which is caused by wearing a mask and restricting the skin’s natural ability to breathe, we recommend adding a gentle exfoliant to your skincare routine twice per week. This will help draw out the impurities, smooth out skin texture and prepare the skin for better absorption. Grown Alchemist Polishing Facial Exfoliant gently delaminates dry and dead skin cells, decongests the skin, reduces bacteria and stimulates Collagen and cell regeneration.

Detoxify your skin at a cellular level.

We spoke about impurities building up on your facial skin and the internal and external stressors that affect the function of our body; these can all contribute to discomfort and cause further skin problems. When you can detoxify and remove impurities at a cellular level in your body, you can restore the natural function of your skin and improve your skin barrier function, creating the perfect environment to release your true beauty. Grown Alchemist Detox Serum Antioxidant +3, lightweight, oil-free serum is designed to detoxify the skin to eliminate oxidants, toxins and pollutants at a cellular level. It will enhance the action of the other products to follow, leaving the skin ready to function more effectively as cell health is restored and enhanced. It is also a perfect serum to layer with any other serums from the Grown Alchemist range.

Hydrate your skin.

Dry skin can be a common face-mask skin problem. We recommend using a moisturiser twice daily that boosts hydration levels and contains ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid for a deep and lasting hydration boost. You want to select a moisturiser that is formulated to your skin type – normal, dry, combination or oily. If your skin is prone to sensitivity, the natural and non-toxic ingredients formulations of Grown Alchemist products are well suited to help manage sensitivities. Grown Alchemist Hydra-Repair Treatment Cream is ideal for cold climates and recovery from skin trauma, it helps to soothe, protect and calm the skin while providing maximum hydration.

On top of daily moisturising, we recommend using a nourishing masque 2-3 times a week for extra protection and hydration. Grown Alchemist Age-Repair Gel Masque, a lightweight peptide-rich gel masque is highly effective in boosting hydration, elasticity and firmness for the facial skin. Formulated with gentle cooling actives, this masque is perfect for even the most sensitive of facial skin types.
