make-up class: PARTY / EVENING MAKE-UP

Nikki Yazxhi

Here are some evening inspired make-up moves to have you looking gorgeous from the moment you arrive at your Christmas and NYE parties – to the minute you leave…

1. LESS IS MORE Never apply too much make-up. Sheer make up is more flattering, even for evening looks, plus it lasts longer. Too much layering will add years and end up in a make-up melt-down.

2. LAYING THE FOUNDATION Ask any man about foundation and they’ll confess they like the ‘natural’ look. Luckily they’re easily fooled. The trick is to stay away from matte and choose a dual-finish foundation for a shimmery dewy look. Apply it with a damp sponge for extra staying-power and brush-over the t-zone with translucent powder to curb any oil-slicks.

3. BRIGHT EYES Dot a concealer – one shade lighter than your skin tone – underneath your eyes and pat gently to blend. This will eliminate any dark circles and make the eyes look brighter.

4. PICK ONE FEATURE Play up either your lips or eyes. Smokey eyes should be teamed with a soft, more natural looking mouth. So if you want to wear a dark lipstick, keep your eye make-up to a minimum. Apply a beige or white, transparently pearled shade, then smudge a bit of pencil close to your lashes to give you definition.

5. HIGHLIGHT Add a bit of shimmer – not too much or you’ll look like a Christmas decoration -to your brow bones, the top of your cheeks and the centre of your lips to illuminate your face.

6. BLUSH Don’t go overboard with blush. Use a soft, translucent blush, rather than overloading your cheeks with a dark shade, to create a soft, sexy glow.

7. MASCARA MOVES When it comes to mascara, once you’ve applied there’s no going back, so avoid build-up at all costs. To prevent ‘panda’ eyes, try applying regular mascara first to avoid build-up, then use the waterproof formulation for the second coat.

8. POUTY MOUTH Keep lipstick in it’s place by applying foundation to your lips first; line and fill the entire lip with liner, blot, apply lipstick, then blot again to give it extra staying-power. Apply a clear shade of lipgloss over your lipstick – when it catches the light it will make your lips appear fuller.
