As the name suggests, the goal of this treatment is to provide a lifted and tightened effect to the entire face, concentrating on lifting from the temple area. However, it’s not like a traditional facelift, which has previously only ever been a surgical procedure. This doesn’t involve any scalpels, stitches or downtime – but you do get a lifted effect. A temple facelift is also sometimes called a ‘mini facelift’. With a temple facelift, we’re using dermal filler to restore volume in the temple area. You might wonder why the temples are so important but it’s actually an often-overlooked area when it comes to tell-tale signs of ageing, and many people simply aren’t aware of what an impact it makes to the entire face.
The temples are prone to hollowing as we get older, as the fat pads responsible for keeping this area plush begin to slip down and deplete. Hollow temples can make a person look gaunt, unhealthy, or older. Younger people with full temples tend to have more balance in their facial aesthetic, as the flesh in the temples sits further away from the bone and creates the attractive heart shaped facial structure.
So, we focus on the temples as one of the crucial elements of the face that benefit from restoration of youthful volume. Using dermal filler in the temples causes the surrounding skin to be pulled a little tauter, as there is less slackness in the newly filled skin.
The face falls from the temples; it’s a key point of the face for reintroducing balance and structure. So, if someone feels heaviness in their lower face, it’s actually better to treat that concern from higher up; treating the temples can consequently lift sagging skin in the mid- or lower-face areas.
Dermal filler is made up of hyaluronic acid (HA) which we already have in our skin naturally. When HA is injected beneath the skin, it inflates and supports the skin by physically filling the volume deficit and cushioning the surrounding tissues. When you have a temple filler treatment, you’ll have topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) applied to the temple area. Once the area is numb, we’ll use injections to place the filler. When this HA solution is placed in the temples, it replenishes the natural stores of hyaluronic acid that have been depleted by age over the years.
As we lose collagen, bone and fat with ageing, the temples become hollow and we lose some of the structure that’s responsible for supporting much of the face. Without this support, the facial skin begins to sag, and we then see slackness and formation of lines in the face as a result. By using filler to create a replica of cheekbones and youthful fat pads, we can rejuvenate the face by mimicking collagen and bone to create a more youthful and balanced structure.

Depending on the type of filler used, a temple face lift can last anywhere between 6 to 12 months. Most patients we see prefer to have their filler appointments around 5-8 months apart, to keep the look consistent.
Because we use dermal fillers with a built-in anaesthetic, and we apply numbing cream to the treatment area, it’s a relatively comfortable experience with most patients not feeling much pain.
We ask our patients: what is having your youthful looks restored worth to you? When it comes to treatments like these – ones that visibly improve your overall facial aesthetic long term with low commitment and zero downtime – they’re of incredible value. In some cases, we can achieve similar results to those of surgical procedures, but without stitches, recovery or permanency, which is important to many people. For our temple face lift, we price this according to the mLs of dermal filler used, and we start this at $700 per mL. The amount of filler required for the temples can vary from patient to patient depending on the severity or hollowing, as well as a person’s individual characteristics, but generally we use a total of 1–2 mLs for the temple area.
