We asked Jacqui the bellamumma questions to find out a little more about her…
You, in three words? Heart centered, creative, ridiculous.
What inspires you? Everything little thing really. My friendships, our students, my husband, beautiful food and cooking, nature constantly, my meditation practice, reading other writers work, artists and creatives, the bravery and courage of others.
What’s your work title? Teacher first, then writer
What was your first-ever job? Waitressing which kept me in good stead for nearly 25 years!
What did you want to be ‘when you were little’? I wanted to be a professional gift wrapper at David Jones (it was the 80’s!), and then a vet, and then an artist. None of which came to fruition.
How did The Broad Place come about? Through a deep desire to create a non dogmatic, modern school in which people could engage with self development and spirituality.
Explain your usual day? Truly there isn’t one, but the constant foundations are meditation, ritual, eating well, teaching, writing and spending time in nature and eating as well as I can, I am quite literally food obsessed.
What ‘makes your day’? If it involves laughter, joy and spontaneity, I am wrapt.
Three things in your life you can’t live without? For the non material; meditation, the ocean, my friends. For the material; books, my Japanese cooking knife and my iPhone.

4 fave songs you’re currently listening to? I couldn’t say of all time, but I am an obsessive so my most played at the moment are; Beam Me Up by. Midnight Magic, Mandalam by Nadaka, Mothersong by Westerman, And She Was by Carlos Cipa.
Fave place to escape to? My home, it’s got a creek running alongside it, and groves of palm trees, and fruit trees and you can sit under the trees with the birds and just get completely present and lost in each moment.
What’s your favourite time of the day? Before the sunrises, the blue hour, of quiet and pure possibility of the day ahead.
How do you relax? I read, I practice Zen tea ceremony, I walk, swim in the ocean or our creek, and I just sit in nature and let go.
The best piece of life advice you’ve received? ‘Stop explaining yourself’.
What will you be doing 5 years time? Hopefully more of exactly what I am doing now
