how-to: ORGANISE / ‘SPRING CLEAN’ YOUR MAKEUP

Nikki Yazxhi

how to organise your makeup

DOES YOUR MAKE-UP BAG / BATHROOM DRAWER LOOK
LIKE A BOMB’S HIT IT?

Ah-hah, here’s the ‘spring cleaning’ inspiration that may just change that…

Divide the space. To keep your cosmetics separated into categories, try plastic cutlery dividers placed inside a drawer. Try to group your makeup into day and evening looks within these organisers. When you’re in a hurry, you don’t want your smoky eyes palette mixed in with your basic beige shadow.

Stash your scents. Perfume should never be stored in direct sunlight—the heat can break down the ingredients and ruin the fragrance. Instead, tuck bottles inside your lingerie drawer (the scent will perfume your undies and bras, too).

Protect your tools. Keep your makeup brushes standing in a jar with the bristles up, or slide them into brush rolls, pieces of soft cloth similar to what chefs use to protect knives from dust. Every two weeks, wash the bristles with baby shampoo, followed by conditioner to make them nice and soft.

Downsize. You can make your own mini-size versions of your favourite products by filling plastic containers from the chemist with foundations or powders. This way, you won’t have to dismantle your newly organised system every time you need a little touch-up.
