Are there hair or makeup trends that you have seen overseas that you expect to hit the Australian shores in time for summer? On the runways there was a much softer take on the smoky eye for Summer with sheer bronzes taking the place of darker tones.
Lipstick colours are big this season after seasons of smoky eyes being the focus. The bold lip is back and the colour palette ranged from pinky/flesh tones through to sheer ruby reds that are used more like a stain with a blurred unlined edge.
In the London Fashion Week hair department, braids were still featuring everywhere, and they appeared in all different ways. The most notable hair trend I saw was the use of gilded hair accessories. It’s been a long time since the hair accessory has been used in anything other than the raceway/festival sphere, but it looks like it’s coming through this season. What fun!
There was a lot of “second day hair” on the New York runway, hair being knotted back from the face, and still quite a few appearances by the wet look that just doesn’t really translate onto the street.
What’s a quick way to update your hairstyle for summer without colouring it? Style it into all different braids… take pieces from the front and use them to hold the hair back from your face by knotting them together at the back of the head… or use some cute gilded hair accessories to bring some summer sparkle into your usual style. You could also try some light layering around the face so when you whip your hair up into a messy bun or a cool beach braid you have all those delightful floaty pieces around the face.
What’s a quick way to update your makeup for summer? Swap dark grey and black eye makeup for a sheer wash of bronze, gold and copper tones. A wash of warm metallic sits beautifully on lightly tanned skin and lifts everything. Brighten your smile with one of the new lip shades in pretty pale pink or sheer ruby.
What haircare / makeup products should you switch for summer? Your make-up can move into a lighter, sheerer coverage with a bronzey glow which is much more suited to the humidity of summer. You are usually outside and in the sun a whole lot more in the summer months, not to mention the UV is higher… so choose products that will protect your hair from damage, and try a hydrating masque to rehabilitate your ends after that diabolical sea salt, sand and sun combo.
What’s a simple trendy hairstyle that is perfect for summer? Usually the best approach for a summer friendly hairstyle is something that works with the weather. If it’s warm but dry, use a sea salty spray to create texture and the Cloud Nine Waving Wand through long hair –this is gorgeous. If it’s humid and hot go for style that keeps you cool but looking chic. This summer, a tousled braid, messy ponytail or loose topknot will keep you in style and feeling good in the heat.
