Good skin starts from within and every meal is an opportunity to nourish your skin. That’s why I love to eat a diet full of antioxidant rich whole foods that give my skin the nourishment it craves. Eating well is the best way to keep your skin radiant, clear and wrinkle free.
Here are some of my top beauty boosting foods and tips to make your skin glow…
Antioxidant Bursting Berries are rich in vitamin C, which helps to keep the skin firm by aiding collagen production. Collagen gives strength and structure to your skin and is vital for elasticity and firmness. Silica is also a trace mineral found in berries that assists with collagen formation as well as helping improve skin’s hydration and elasticity. Always go organic where possible and enjoy a wide variety! Each berry contains a different nutritional profile to support health.
Eat the right protein: Protein is the key nutrient for ageless, beautiful skin. Your skin, hair and nails are made up of protein, so it’s important to include it you’re your diet to maintain healthy skin, hair and nails. The amount you consume each day varies slightly depending on your age, weight and activity level. You can find out how much you need from my protein calculator. I love incorporating my Healthy Chef Protein into my morning breakfast smoothies or afternoon goodness shakes and I can see the difference it makes in the health of my skin as well as my digestive and immune system.
The secret to glowing skin is simple: eat lots of fruit and vegetables and make sure you are feeding your skin with antioxidants, healthy fats and protein to nourish it from the inside out. This smoothie is high in hydrating, restorative minerals and antioxidants that infuse straight into your cells to give your skin the goodness it craves. Serves 2.
1 1⁄2 cups coconut water 1 cup frozen blueberries
4 leaves of baby cos (romaine) lettuce
1 tablespoon coconut yoghurt (or your choice of natural Greek-style yoghurt or kefir)
small handful of goji berries
1 teaspoon ground flaxseed or whole chia seed
1 tablespoon Healthy Chef Pure Native WPI Protein
1 tablespoon Healthy Chef Organic Superfood
COMBINE coconut water, blueberries, cos lettuce, yoghurt, goji, flaxseed, protein and superfood powder in a high-performance blender.
BLEND for 15–20 seconds until smooth and creamy.
POUR into a glass and enjoy.
+ Notes and Inspiration: Use chilled hibiscus tea as an antioxidant-packed replacement for the coconut water. It’s rich in vitamin C and has astringent properties for toning your skin. Brew it the night before so it’s lovely and chilled. It has a slight tartness like cranberries, so you may want to sweeten your smoothie by adding a little raw honey or some fresh pineapple.
