bM chats to: STEPHANIE DEVINE
FROM ESSENTIAL LUXURIES FOR CANCER

bM interview: STEPHANIE DEVINE FROM ESSENTIAL LUXURIES FOR CANCER

AFTER HER OWN BATTLE WITH BREAST CANCER,
STEPHANIE DEVINE SAW THE NEED FOR SOME ESSENTIAL LUXURIES TO HELP WITH HER RECOVERY

Bras Without Wires and an amazing cashmere collection were born.

“In late 2006, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Within days I was in hospital, and I went through seven months of difficult and painful treatment. There were many things I needed and wanted quickly, and couldn’t get, and my family and friends in far-flung places had no idea what gifts to buy for a cancer patient,” explains Stephanie. “Essential Luxuries for Cancer is born out of a desire to change this, by providing a one-stop-shop where you can find beautiful, practical luxuries, with which to treat yourself, or your loved ones.”

Through ELFC Stephanie has created Bras Without Wires and a stunning line of pure cashmere collection, including shawls, beanies and socks {pictured below} all to help others going through what she went through – which are all are available from www.essentialluxuriesforcancer.com

We chatted to Stephanie to find out a bit more about her and ELFC…

You, in three words? Determined, thankful and tired!

What inspires you? People’s creativity, generosity and innovation

What’s your work title? ‘Everywoman’!

What was your first ever job? Shop assistant in the UK’s worst high st shoe store, where my 14 year old self didn’t lust after a single shoe…

What did you want to be ‘when you were little’? An air hostess

How did Essential Luxuries for Cancer come about? By my determination to bring an aesthetic to the orthopaedic nature of cancer treatment and to provide one central location with everything you need, but above all, to make beautiful, non-wired bras in natural fibres and proper cup sizes that were not maternity, as chemo put an end to the possibility of kids for me.

Explain your usual day? Mornings are emails with suppliers and customers, then I work three days in my ‘day job’ as a corporate headhunter which funds my fledgeling businesses. When working on ELFC and BWW my day is often factory trips and dealing with suppliers, as well as trying to find time for the more creative stuff around reaching my client base in new ways. I end the day by writing a big list for the next day, meditating, and then zoning out to make dinner, have a glass of red and watch TV shows!

What ‘makes your day’? Great feedback from customers makes my day, in the absence of which a run down the beach in the morning is also a real winner.

Who’s your fashion icon? Coco Chanel, but I also love Isabel Marant

How would you describe your style? Rushed! But given time I’m a bit of a cross between a hippy and a rock chick i.e. i prefer my leather brown and a ruffle with my biker jacket.

Three products you can’t live without? Aesop Madascan rose oil, Bobby Brown eyeliner gel and Kheils body lotion

4 fave songs on your iPod?
Emmylou by First Aid Kit
Far from any Road by The Handsome Family
How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep by Bombay Bicycle Club
Every Mile of the Ride by Lindi Ortega

Fave perfume? Agent Provocateur

What will you be doing 5 years time? Hopefully still running ELFC, being Brand Ambassador for BWW, and leading the manufacturing and distribution to a bigger business in the lingerie space.
