Drinks at least two-to-three litres of water a day is a boring and obvious tip but keeping your body and skin hydrated is non-negotiable. To ingest more vitamins, minerals and antioxidants I suggest making big bottles of iced green tea with lemon, cucumber, and berries, etc. Make sure you use a straw to prevent damage to the teeth.
If you are dehydrated from drinking too much alcohol, add in a little bit of pink salt to this iced tea mix, which will help you hydrate quicker. There is a receptor pump in our gut that will absorb water more efficiently if it is ingested with a little sugar (from the fruit) and salt. This is the basis of most sports drinks and rehydration tablets like Hydralyte. But I think this is a healthier alternative.
I also recommend Kombucha in place of fizzy drinks. It also gives a healthy dose of prebiotics. There is definitely a connection between a healthy gut and beautiful skin.
Consume good fats, protein and a variety of fruit and veggies. Particularly bright coloured veggies. This is more of a lifestyle choice than a quick fix. I also like collagen powders, turmeric, spirulina, etc. It is helpful to ensure your diet contains ingredients that will lower inflammation and help to provide the building blocks of collagen which can be readily available for the skin.
Increasing blood flow by getting a daily sweat in is really great for clearing the pores and brightening the skin. You can do it through exercise or hot yoga. Or if you’re feeling lazy, a facial steam and self-facial massage, or a sauna. This will help to give a quicker and more instant result. – even better if done a few times a week. Blood flow is so important. This is why smokers usually don’t have nice skin. In addition to damaging the collagen, the nicotine inhibits the microvasculature to the skin, leaving a lack of oxygen and a build of toxins leading to dull, sallow and nasty skin.
Radiance beauty boosters are great. This involves little microdroplets of hyaluronic acid being injected into the dermis of the skin. This moisturisers and hydrates the skin from the inside out. The product also contains collagen precursors. The stretch on the skin by the microdroplets and the needling effect of the treatment also stimulates collagen formation. A few weeks after the treatment you’ll have that Kate Hudson glow.
Laser treatments are also wonderful for getting rid of any pigmentation, redness, broken capillaries, etc. Lasers can also be useful for collagen stimulation, making pores appear smaller and radiance.
Good daily skin care is essential: niacinamide, antioxidants and SPF during the day. AHAs, Vitamin A and a good emollient at night. This is a lifestyle factor and a long-term thing. For a quick fix, an illuminating primer is a must! Also using highlighters, bronzers and a little blush helps to give a beautiful radiant look.
Other non-skin features help with the overall look – ie white teeth, white whites of the eyes (eye drops!), and a nice beautifully blow-dried glossy mane. These are unconscious signs of good health and fertility and will make you look more attractive overall.
