5 ways to KICK START YOUR NEW YEAR with Claire Tregoning

Felicity Bonello

A NEW YEAR IS ALWAYS FULL OF PROMISE AND EXPECTATION, AND WHILE IN OUR RIGHT MIND’S WE KNOW TOO WELL THAT GRANDIOSE RESOLUTIONS ARE PRETTY MUCH DESIGNED TO BE BROKEN, THERE’S A STIRRING WITHIN US THAT COMPELS US – YEAR IN YEAR OUT – TO COMMIT TO AN OVERLY AMBITIOUS LIST OF SELF PROMISES.

bellamumma contributor, Felicity Bonello, spoke with P.E Nation Co-Founder and Creative Director, Claire Tregoning, to find out how she tackles the New Year…

1. SET YOUR INTENTIONS
“Set small goals. Keep them positive and make sure these goals, with the right processes in place, can evolve. If it’s fitness you’re after consider swapping a sweeping statement like ‘I’m going to get fit this year’ with specific fitness or strength-based goals such as pushing a certain weight, running a certain distance or beating a certain time. It’s more practical and you’re more likely to achieve your goal if you aim for the short term.”

2. DEVELOP A GOOD ROUTINE
“So routines aren’t for everyone, but there’s something to be said for carving out specific time in your week for exercise, self-care or your other ‘non-negotiables’. Whether you’re single or juggling family life having allocated time allows you to create the space you need to achieve certain milestones and an understanding from the people around you. We’re creatures of habit and routine offers a way to promote health and wellness through structure and organisation.”

3. INVEST IN SELF CARE
“Self-care isn’t widely seen as a luxury anymore which is great. When you take time to meditate or have a treatment, embark on a juice cleanse, a technology cleanse – whatever it is – we tend to slow down, we’re calmer, we’ve got less cortisol running through our system. We all know that if you feel good on the inside, it will show on the outside which is amazing, but self-care, especially when we all work so hard, will help to sustain you throughout the year.”

4. TRACK THE STEPS YOU’RE ALREADY TAKING
“There can be a lot of anxiety around hitting a gym. Maybe you work out regularly, perhaps you haven’t exercised in a while, well, before you sign up for that gym membership, figure out how much exercise you’re already doing. Download a fitness-tracking app and start counting your steps. It’s simple, cheap and really great way to stay accountable when it comes to diet and exercise. You might be surprised by how many calories you’re already burning through incidental exercise.”

5. LOOK GOOD, FEEL GOOD
“Who doesn’t feel good when they’re dressed to impress? Our clothes tell a story about who we are, how we relate to others and how we feel about ourselves. Whether it’s a new supportive crop, the perfect pair of leggings or a new pair of trainers, feel more comfortable, confident and inspired to set some attainable goals for the coming year with some new threads! Dress yourself happy this year.”
