summer beauty SURVIVAL GUIDE

HANGING OUT AT THE BEACH OR BY THE POOL IS SUPER-RELAXING but it can be harsh on your beauty treatments.

From spray tans to lash extensions, here’s how to keep your faux features gorgeous all summer long.

You’re bleached-blonde. Hair that looks like gold can turn to straw once the sun and chlorine do their dirty work. {Bleached hair is more susceptible to environmental dryness and damage.} If you plan to spend a lot of time outdoors, prep hair with a leave-in conditioner to keep it from fading or turning green. Before hopping into the pool, wet your hair with fresh water and apply conditioner from roots to tips to keep hair from absorbing as much chlorine.

You have extensions. The bonds that keep hair extensions in will hold fast in the water, it’s the tangling and matting that turns them into a mess. Before you go swimming, gather your hair in a low ponytail or loose braid to keeps your strands from floating around and getting knotted together. Then make sure to carefully detangle afterwards with a wide-tooth comb.

You have lash extensions. These are”pretty much maintenance free, unless you’re going to be doing some serious swimming. If that’s the case, be sure to wear goggles so the force of the water won’t loosen lash extensions as you do laps. Also, ask your stylist if the glue she uses will hold up to oil-based products; if not, choose sunscreens that come in a creams or lotion {not a spray} so you can be sure to avoid the lashlines when applying.

You have a spray tan. Fake tans are a safe way to get some colour, but you have to take special care so they don’t fade. Before and after you go swimming, apply a hydrating SPF product to help prolong your self tan and prevent you from burning at the same time. To keep your colour from coming off on your towel, gently pat skin dry—don’t rub.
