kerrie5

KERRIE IS ONE OF AUSTRALIA’S MOST NOTABLE FASHION ILLUSTRATORS & HER PAINTINGS ARE SOUGHT AFTER GLOBALLY BY LOUIS VUITTON, HARRODS AND LANCÔME – TO NAME A FEW.

Kerrie has big things planned for 2017 with collaborations already in the works with Ariana Grande, Laduree and The Plaza Athenee Paris.
Before she got too busy, we wanted to know more…

With such a successful career to date and so many exciting things planned for the next 12 months, we asked Kerrie the ‘bellaMUMMA questions’ to find out a little more about her and how her beautiful career came to life…

You, in three words? Creative, romantic, eclectic.

What inspires you? To be honest I just feel so lucky to be an artist, I feel inspired to get to work most days and be creative.

What’s your work title? I’m not always sure, but ‘Artist’ is probably the best word for it.

What was your first ever job? On the checkout at Target!

What did you want to be ‘when you were little’? Something creative. But to be honest I didn’t think it would be possible to be an artist. I studied Graphic Design with the intention that I would probably have to get a proper job and paint on the side.

How did your career as an illustrator come about? I started as a Graphic Designer in London and decided to save up enough to support myself as an artist for one year and just see how I went. That was a very long time ago now and since then I have been lucky enough to work with brands such as Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Maison Laduree, Elie Saab, Calvin Klein, etc. Billboards and exhibitions in Paris.

Explain your usual day? Generally up at 6.30am for 15 mins of stretches. Get my son to school, then coffee and go through my to do list. I try and do painting in the morning as I am the most creative then, admin, phone calls and skypes in the afternoon. If I can squeeze in a walk before dinner, it’s a good day!

What ‘makes your day’? When my son Marcel sometimes makes coffee for my fiancé and I and brings them into our bedroom followed by cuddles. He is the barista of the house.

Three things in your life you can’t live without? Cuddles from my son, salted caramel dark chocolate, painting and family. Always the simple things.

4 fave songs on your iPod? At the moment, ‘Starboy’ by The Weekend, ‘Sweet Disposition’ by The Temper Trap, ‘Brighter’ by Rufus, and ‘La Belle et La Bad Boy’ by MC Solar.

Fave place to escape to? Noosa in Australia, or Paris overseas.

How do you relax? If the sun is out, a day at the beach is always relaxing, or curling up with coffee and a good book is perfect for a rainy day. Anything away from screens I tend to find relaxing.

Best piece of life advice you’ve received? Always think about the long term and the big picture. I want to be an artist until I am 75, so it’s best to keep things small and grow with your business. I want everything that I am involved in to be really special. Overexposure is not always the best thing. I remember turning down a huge deal (at the time) to licence my work on prints and cards in an American chain store about 17 years ago. It’s the best decision I have ever made. Once you start licencing your work out, you lose control of it.

What will you be doing 5 years time? Exactly the same thing as I am now hopefully! Painting more originals, and limited edition prints as that is where my heart is.
