PUT SOME SPRING INTO YOUR SKIN

IT’S TIME TO PUT AWAY THOSE BOOTS & JUMPERS AND GET OUT YOUR SANDALS & STRAPPY TOPS, BECAUSE
SPRING IS FINALLY HERE

It’s also the time after a harsh, cold winter to put a bit of ‘spring back into our skin’!
By bM ‘skincare expert’ contributor Emma Hobson

Winter can be quite tough on our skin, the moisture levels have had a hammering resulting in dry, dehydrated and subsequently irritated, sensitised skin. The skin can feel rough to the touch and be just a little more reactive to its environment in general, so there’s defiantly work to be done.

Time to Shed the Dead.
A really important step in turning the skin around and ridding us of the dryness from winter is by effective exfoliation. This will ensure we liven up a currently dull complexion. With so many exfoliating options which is the best for you? The Rolls Royce of exfoliation for both face and body is found within the walls of a professional skin treatment centre. Currently my favourite option is a course of Chemical Peels, the results can be quite startling. Hydro-dermabrasion, Vitamin A, Hydroxy Acid and Digestive Enzyme Peels are also excellent choices that leave the skin feeling silky smooth.

For home care I recommend a combination of a day time ‘light’ treatment with Hydroxy Acids e.g. a serum/booster used either under or within your moisturiser and also a more substantial exfoliant e.g. a granular or chemical exfoliant used two to three times per week.

You can emulate a professional body exfoliation treatment at home by using a good body scrub and buffing cloth or mitt, followed by a hydrating, lightweight body moisturiser containing mild Hydroxy Acids.

Hydration Boosters.
Parched, dry skin will need rehydration. For the face, it’s time to reach for your hydrating boosters, hydrating spritz toners and hydrating masks. Often these super hydrators contain Hyaluronic Acid, a wonder ingredient that has the ability to hold a 1000 x its own weight in moisture.

My favourite hydrating toners come in the form of a spritz. They evenly hydrate the skin and stop unpleasant dry flaky patches and reduce the quantity of moisturiser you’ll need. An added bonus being they can be spritzed over makeup during the day to boost skins moisture levels.

Nourish & Replenish.
The ideal products to improve skin nourishment and regeneration are serums, masks and moisturisers that contain Vitamin’s A, C, E and Panthenol. A complex of Vitamins act like a ‘power pack’ for a stressed, winter ravaged skin. Think of them like an ‘ambulance’ in a tube, especially products that contain Beta Glucan (from oats) and 5% Panthenol (B5) they instantly calm, soften and nourish the skin.

Having ingredients within your products that repair and protect the barrier of the skin are also vital, such as Silicones, Evening Primrose Oil, Borage Seed Oil, Jojoba Seed and Shea Butter.

At night time you can’t beat applying an oil based serum to revitalise a lack lustre skin. I love serums that contain Argan, Rosehip Seed, Rosemary Leaf, Carrot and Jasmine Oils.

Don’t forget the eyes and lips take a big hit during winter. I’d suggest using a super gentle microfoliant {with Rice Bran Powder} to lightly slough off surface dry skin followed by a nourishing multi vitamin mask. Apply morning and night applications of a nourishing eye and also a lip product. For the eyes I’d suggest an intensive eye repair product with deeply nourishing and restorative properties and for the mouth a renewal complex for super soft, smooth lips.

Put Some Spring in our Step
Sandals at the ready but your feet look like they need a little TLC? For areas of dry skin on the feet use an exfoliating scrub followed if necessary with a pumice block. The follow with a light sponge application of a gradual self-tan moisturiser.

The Final Touch
Immerse yourself in a ‘breath of spring’ by applying a fine spray of floral body mist containing a melody of essential oils and plant botanicals. Emma X
