petaluma renovation: PACKING UP {& STORING} EVERYTHING IN THE HOUSE

packing up house

AS YOU KNOW WE’RE ABOUT TO START OUR RENOVATION & THAT MEANS PACKING UP THE ENTIRE HOUSE & STORING IT

all I can say is… thank goodness for PODS Storage

This is such as genius concept… it’s helped take away the packing/storing stress away from the whole renovating process. In a nutshell…  a PODS Storage container is strong, secure and weather resistant. It’s delivered it to your home, you pack it in your own time, they store it {for however long you want}, then it’s delivered back and you unpack. The PODS have a durable, lockable roller door to protect all your belongings, and only you have the key. You have control of your belongings and the whole process. Everything is done on your schedule. And no one has access to your things but you. See genius!

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:
YOUR POD IS DELIVERED: After choosing which size POD you’ll need {the team are so helpful when working out which out of the 3 sizes you’ll need}, your PODS container is delivered and placed at ground level ready for easy packing and loading. {Usually on your driveway.}

YOU PACK THE POD IN YOUR OWN TIME: You pack the PODS container at your own pace, {or they have professional packing partners that can do all the work for you}. You can take as long as you need to pack {and unpack} your POD, which takes so much stress away. Genius!

THEY PICK UP THE POD AND MOVE IT: PODS pick up your container, when you’re ready, and move it to your new home, interstate, or to their secure storage centre.

THEY STORE THE POD: If you’re like us, and you’re renovating, you can have your POD stored at one of their safe and secure Storage Centres, short or long term. Or, fi you have the space, you can store it at your own premises – how perfect it this for renovators.

PODS GENIUS PACKING TIPS:
1. As you’re packing, take a few extra minutes to write an inventory list. You can also download this Storage Checklist, which is a HUGE help.

2. Pack as much as possible in boxes, and use packing paper or fillers to eliminate empty spaces. This provides greater protection for your belongings and will make loading your PODS container easier. Be sure box tops and sides don’t bulge or cave in. {You can buy moving packs, boxes and packing supplies HERE}

3. Use moving pads and blankets to protect furniture.

4. Label boxes to make unpacking easier – sounds obvious, but most people forget to do it.

5. Take care to evenly distribute the weight of your contents throughout the container and use all available space. This includes wall to wall and floor to ceiling. Here’s a few more clever ways to maximise your PODS space:

* Fill the refrigerator, washer, dryer and other hollow items that take up space.

* Pack pictures, mirrors and other similarly shaped items in the spaces between beams. This will help protect them by creating a tighter fit.

* Mix small items with larger items to fill spaces, and don’t save all your boxes for the end.

* Be sure to tie down all of your belongings one section at a time, taking full advantage of the conveniently placed eye hooks inside the container.

*Place soft, light items in plastic bags and distribute them in small spaces where boxes can’t.

FYI here’s a POD in action {my boys have asked for the day off school to see ours delivered!}…
… I’ll video it for them {and you} when our POD is delivered later this week, so stay tuned! Until then…
