the truth about VITAMINS + COFFEE

VITAMIN & COFFEE

THIS IS SOMETHING, AS A COFFEE LOVER {ADDICT}, I’VE ALWAYS WONDERED ABOUT…

{So I decided to ask an expert!}

Does having a coffee after taking your vitamins interfere with their absorption?
Unfortunately my suspicions were correct… yes caffeine can interfere with the absorption of important vitamins and minerals. Blackmores Naturopath, Rebekah Russell says, “Caffeine decreases the absorption of calcium and iron and may also interfere with the absorption of vitamin A. It also increases urinary excretion of magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and zinc leading to mineral imbalances.”

*
“Caffeine can also cause depletion of vitamin B1, biotin, and inositol, vital for
hair, skin and nail health.”

So, lesson is, if you’re taking vitamins around the same time as indulging in caffeine, you won’t receive the full benefit of the supplement. Take your vitamins and wait a couple of hours before having your latte, or vice versa!
