beauty school: 3 mistakes you MAY be making with YOUR POWDER

powder

IF YOU THOUGHT ‘POWDER’ WAS A TOTALLY FOOLPROOF STEP IN YOUR MAKE-UP ROUTINE, THINK AGAIN!

Okay, it’s hard to do anything too devastatingly wrong with powder, but if you do get it a little wrong, your face will look powdery and flat.

So to get it ‘right’, follow these tips and avoid the mistakes:

Mistake #1: Power-powdering your nose. Resist the temptation to coat your whole nose heavily in powder {you know, extra shine insurance!}. If you apply straight on the nose it can flatten the nose –  instead go on the sides of the nose first because that area looks bad if its shiny, then I slightly on the bridge. The bridge shouldn’t be completely matte.

Mistake #2: Using that ginormous powder brush. Oversize powder brushes look good but they’re not the best for strategic application. A smaller brush is better, and it’s also good to use one of these instead of the puff that comes in a powder compact – sometimes those powder puffs get too much powder on them, so a brush is much better for lightly dusting it on.

Mistake #3: Using the same powder for touch-ups. Instead use a colourless blotting powder, which zaps shine but won’t build up on the skin and leave it looking dry and/or chalky. And because it has no colour, you won’t take away from your blush or other makeup every time you apply powder.
