travel insider: 3 TRAVEL BEAUTY PROBLEMS & HOW TO DEAL WITH THEM

how to look good when you travel

HOPPING ON A PLANE IS EXCITING WHEN YOU HAVE A MUCH-ANTICIPATED HOLIDAY TO LOOK FORWARD TO

However, flying can also present many travel beauty problems, especially if it’s a long haul flight. Margaret Lai, Flight Purser at Cathay Pacific shares her insider tips

Being sky-high at 35,000 feet+ means you are limited when it comes to your beauty routine, rituals and fixes. Margaret Lai, Flight Purser at Cathay Pacific shares her top tips on how she deals with the three most common travel beauty problems…

PROBLEM 1: My skin always feels dry and dehydrated on a plane
TIP: Most people only start to drink water during the flight in order to stay hydrated. However, did you know that you should be drinking water pre, during and post flight? Do this in conjunction with applying and reapplying a rich moisturiser throughout the trip. This will allow you to truly hydrate your skin from the inside out.

PROBLEM 2: After a long haul flight, my skin is dull and I look tired
TIP: Sleeping on a plane can have its challenges but skipping out on sleep has a direct impact on the way your skin looks. To counteract this, make sure you board the plane fully prepared so that you can get your beauty sleep in check. Bring a silk eye mask so that It doubles as a sleeping aid and can help decrease the crinkles you get from sleeping. Ear plugs are also very handy – especially if there is a crying baby on board. If you still struggle to sleep, try a soothing spray with lavender.

PROBLEM 3: My makeup never lasts the entire plane trip
TIP: Ideally, you would not wear makeup on the plane so you can allow your skin to breathe. However, if going completely bare faced is an uncomfortable thought, then you need to be strategic with your product choices. Buff on translucent powder with a powder brush all over the face to help makeup stay in place. For eye makeup, always use an eye primer beforehand followed by waterproof products. Primers may be an extra step but they are worth the while if you want to improve coverage and help your eye makeup last.

+ MARGARET’S TOP 5 INFLIGHT TRAVEL BEAUTY TIPS
1.  Avoid alcohol or chips when you’re on board as these can dehydrate the body and your skin. If you must indulge, then try to drink 1 glass of water for every glass of alcohol you drink.

2. Make sure you pack and apply sunscreen. Being inflight doesn’t make you less prone to the harmful effects of UV rays – especially if you pick a window seat.

3. Do your makeup 30 minutes before landing so you step off looking fresh.

4. Pack makeup/face wipes. Ques to the bathrooms can be long, especially after meals. Makeup wipes are handy because you can freshen up in your seat at any time.

5. Bring a rich hand cream and pack a pair of cotton gloves. Before you doze off into your beauty sleep, slather the hand cream and put your gloves on. You’ll wake up to silky, smooth hands.

  • Such awesome tips! I had never thought of SPF in-flight but she’s so right. Definitely opting for an SPF moisturiser on my next trip north! x

  • To survive a long-haul flight, which is basically to any destination if you’re flying out of Australia (LOL), you definitely need a good quality eye cream and moisturizer!
