HAVING A BABY NOT ONLY CHANGES YOUR BODY, IT CAN HAVE A HUGE EFFECT ON YOUR HAIR

here three beauty insiders reveal how to get your luscious pre-baby locks back.

Having a baby can affect the volume of your hair, it’s texture and condition – it can even change your hair from straight to curly and vice versa. The main reason is due to hormones but the baby can take a lot of your nourishment too, making hair thin and fragile. Add to that the fact that you’re more time-poor and your hair can really suffer. Don’t despair, here’s how to get your pre-baby hair back…

1. daily care:

“While you’re pregnant your hair doesn’t fall out, {we all usually lose about 100 strands of hair a day}, then four to six months after you have the baby this hair can fall out all at once,” explains celebrity and fashion hairstylist, Glenn O’Reilly. “It can also coincide with when you finish breastfeeding. Don’t panic, this will equalize and you’ll soon start to find new re-growth.”

“Childbirth can also rob your hair of protein and moisture,” he says. “To counteract this, thoroughly shampoo hair regularly to give it body and bounce – and use moisturising conditioning treatment that contains protein to plump up the hair and give you more volume.”

“Try to ditch the blow-dryer whenever you can to avoid damaging fragile hair,” he says. “If you have to blow-dry, remember to roll the hair around a round brush to give it a little ‘bend’ and volume.”

2. diet update:

“You can have luscious locks again by eating a healthy diet,” says nutritionist, Karen Fischer from Joliee Skin. “Protein is the major component of hair so increase your intake of protein rich-foods, including fish, eggs, soy, free-range chicken and lean red meat. Anaemia can increase the risk of hair loss so you may want to get your doctor to check your iron levels.

“Minerals such as silica can strengthen the hair and promote new growth so favour silica-rich foods including oats, high bran cereals, brown rice and bananas. To stimulate hair growth and promote shine, try adding 15mls of liquid silica to your shampoo each time you wash your hair.”

3. extra help:

You can fake gorgeous, thick, long locks. “Hairdo is a one-piece clip-in extension that gives you lustrous hair in seconds,” says Anthony Nader at RAW Salon. “It’s virtually undetectable, simple to attach, extremely comfortable to wear and affordable.”  CLICK HERE for more info & to buy online
