GLOW-HOW:
GET SUMMER-SOFT SKIN IN WINTER

HANDS UP WHO LOVES HOT SHOWERS? HANDS UP WHO’S BEEN FORGETTING TO MOISTURISE THEIR BODY? HANDS UP
WHO HAS DRY SKIN?

Hands down… yes, me too! Hello winter!
Don’t stress, here’s your summer-soft-hydrated-skin strategy

In winter, your skin is exposed to damaging factors like extreme temperatures, low humidity, heating, harsh cleansers and hot water, which can leave it itchy and dry. Your skin is your first line of defence against the outside world, so you really need to take care this time of the year to keep it looking and feeling healthy.

Here’s my super-simple skin strategy to realistically winter-proof your skin, and keep it summer-soft:

cooler showers

1. TAKE COOLER {OR SHORTER} SHOWERS: It’s a very brave person who can take a cold shower in winter, brrr, so my ‘realistic’ suggestion is to turn down the hot water and have a cooler shower – or if you really need a hot shower, have a super-quick, speedy one.

The reason why: as much as it feels good, hot water dries out your skin. It strips away your skin’s natural defense against dryness and irritants, and can exacerbate skin conditions like acne, eczema, dandruff, and psoriasis. Cold {or cooler} water actually tightens your cuticles and pores and prevents them from getting clogged.

2. DRINK MORE WATER / KEEP HYDRATED:
In winter we tend drink less water and more hot drinks – they’re more comforting and thelp keep us warm. The only problem is the drinks we thend to drink {hello coffee} are the ones that actually dehydrate us, and you guessed it, contribute to dry skin.

You can still have your coffee, just remember to keep up your water intake, and/or start drinking green tea {which is full of antioxidants, perfect for winter}.

3. MOISTURISE WHEN YOU STEP STRAIGHT OUT OF THE SHOWER: When you moisturise immediately after your shower, your moisturiser traps some of the water still on your body and uses it to help hydrate your skin, so it’s a win win!

That doesn’t mean you need to be dripping with water – before applying your moisturiser, gently pat your skin with a towel until it’s almost dry instead of rubbing it, as towel drying vigorously can irritate sensitive skin.

4. UPGRADE YOUR MOISTURISER: In winter, there’s no time for mucking about – you want your moisturiser to be as quick and effective from the word ‘go’. I’ve been using Vaseline Intensive Care’s new Deep Restore Lotion, and it’s skin-changing – seriously. Here’s why I’m loving it:

* It’s fast-absorbing: You won’t be standing in the bathroom, shivering cold, trying to massage it in. This newbie formula contains micro-droplets of Vaseline Jelly and rich moisturisers, so they absorb quickly to deeply to restore dry skin.

* It’s not greasy: Again, you’re not left feeling cold after using it. You can get dressed straight away without feeling sticky. I use it straight out of the shower on damp skin, but even on ‘non-damp’ skin, it sinks right in.

* It gives you instant relief: After applying it, you immediately feel like your skin has had a big drink. Deep Restore lotion has been clinically proven to moisturise deeply with the first application and to restore dry skin all day long, leaving it looking and feeling healthy. Tick!

* It doesn’t cost a bomb and you can get it while you’re getting the groceries – or from your local chemist.
