like no other…

When you think traditional ‘peels’, you tend to think ‘pain before gain’ as they can generally produce severe side effects such as inflammation, discolouration and scarring for up to several months. With BioSurface Peel, you can get the same powerful results without the aggrevation, associated risks or downtime. In fact, BioSurface Peel is designed to work with YOUR skin’s chemistry, not against it and when performed by a certified skin care professional, it safely removes dull outer layers of skin and helps the skin underneath regenerate for a smooth, glowy complexion.

how it works…

the consultation: First you answer a detailed questionaire about your skin, your concerns and what you’d like to achieve with the treatments! The Dermalogica therapist goes through all this with you and walks you through every step to customise your Peel {she also continues this while you’re having the treatment}. Your skin is also ‘face-mapped’ so your treatment can be completely customised.

the peel: Your skin is thorougly cleansed and the peel begins with a soothing ‘Prep Step’ solution, followed by the ‘Enzyme Active’. This second step delivers a potent {83 percent total enzyme} solution made up of pumpkin fruit enzymes, papain, protease and aminopeptidase enzymes. It also uses moth bean extract for a gentle, botanical alternative to synthetic retinoids.

‘Acid Active’ is the third step, and the one where you really feel the ‘peel’. This phase delivers lactic acid, bran-derived phytic acid, and sugar cane extract, and is the step that brightens areas of hyperpigmentation, helps removes impaction plugs in the sebaceous glands, and aids in cell turnover.

Depending on your skin, this stage is repeated. Each Acid Active layer is left to absorb into your skin for up to five minutes, while your therapist chats to you about how it’s feeling on your skin, before being gently wiped away.

The ‘Decelerator’ is the final step, and it feels amazing, {like meringue being applied to your face}. This stops the exfoliation process, slows the activity of the acids and normalises the epidermis while calming and initiating the process of skin repair. The key ingredients include sodium bicarbonate, yeast extract, soothing cucumber, Japanese green tea, oat leaf and saponaria leaf extracts. Finally, if your skin needs it, a calming oatmeal mask will be applied – and you’re finished of with a super-cold towel compress!

the post treatment / at-home care: After your BioSurface Peel treatment, your skin may appear red and flushed – and as your skin goes through the renewal process, it’s normal to experience dryness, redness and tightness, as well as some peeling or flaking within a week. You may even notice your pigmentation is more noticable as it rises to the skin’s surface. These side effects will disappear quickly with proper post-treatment care, starting with the BioSurface Peel After Care Kit, which you get after each peel. This kit includes: UltraCalming Cleanser, broad-spectrum Super Sensitive Shield SPF30 and two nourishing moisturisers, as well as AGE Smart Multivitamin Thermafoliant to help buff away post-treatment peeling.

how many peels do you need?

Your skin’s condition, skin concerns and dedication to post-treatment care will impact the frequency and results of BioSurface Peel treatments. You’ll generally notice a dramatic improvement in your skin quality, texture and tone after three treatments. Ideally, the treatments should be a week apart, and you should have four to six treatments to get the best results. Follow these up with maintenance treatments twice a year, and you’re good to ‘glow’.

my treatments…

I had four treatments in total, and noticed a huge difference in my skin after the very first treatment. Inbetween my treatments {which were a week apart} I did notice a tiny little redness and a bit of flakiness, but nothing too major – and the After Care Kit seemed to keep everything under control. After my third treatment, hello glow, I noticed a major difference in my skin’s clarity and texture. And my last treatment, WOW, after my skin settled, such a huge improvement, AGAIN!

my results…

{Hand on my heart} the change in my skin is amazing. It’s plumper, smoother, more hydrated skin, the lines on my forehead {one of my concerns} are less prominent. I actually get compliments on how my skin looks – and I don’t need {want} to wear make-up. {That’s how good it is!} I highly recommend! NY x
