DON’T YOU LOVE HOW YOUR ROOTS JUST MAGICALLY APPEAR OUT OF NOWHERE?
One minute they’re teeny tiny, the next minute, he-lo Deborah Harry!
Don’t panic, read on!
Here are three insider ways to help conceal them until your hair appointment!
1. Change your part: If you always part your hair in the same place, that area naturally flattens out, making your roots more prominent. Part your hair on the opposite side, and make it messy. Nothing highlights overgrown roots like a straight, blunt part. Or, ditch the part altogether, and pull your hair straight back into a ponytail, braid, or bun.
2. Pump up the volume: A roughed-up part also helps with this tactic. The more you can get your hair off of your scalp, the better. More lift at the roots makes colour irregularities harder to notice. Since greasy and even second-day hair sometimes falls flat, use dry shampoo to build body and soak up oil. As an added bonus, dry shampoo is great for creating root-camouflaging texture.
3. Camouflage with eyeshadow: Yep, that’s right! Eyeshadow, a.k.a. the most versatile item in your make-up bag, works wonders on roots. Just find a matte shade that matches your hair colour and dust it onto your part with a fluffy brush. Around the hairline and on stubborn grey strands, use a brush with stiffer bristles. Apply it with a light hand; you can always build up the colour. If you go overboard and it ends up looking powdery, simply brush it through.
