emma hobson

with over 30 years experience in the beauty industry, she’s the ‘go-to expert’ for skincare, health and wellness advice. We’re so wrapped to have her onboard
and can’t wait to read her posts…

Emma is Education Manager for The International Dermal Institute and Dermalogica – and is the company spokesperson for I.D.I and dermalogica in Australia. You’ve probably seen many of Emma’s advice featured in Body and Soul, Marie Claire, Harpers Bazaar and Vogue. {I’ve also worked with her on many of my freelance posts too – she is a-mazing and the loveliest person to work with}!

To give you more of an insight into Emma and her work, we asked her the ‘bellaMUMMA’ questions…

You, in three words? After asking my team this question they came back with ‘Warm. Inspiring. Mentor.’

What inspires you? Most importantly my colleagues, my love of the profession I work in, TED talks, great business seminars and books and last but not least, my two boys at home one has two legs the other has four!

What was your first ever job? Whilst at school, stacking shelves in a supermarket. In adulthood, Manager of a Skin Treatment Centre in Hong Kong.

What did you want to be ‘when you were little’? At four I wanted to be a drummer, at five a professional dancer on TV’s music weekly chart show ‘Top of the Pops’, and from six for quite a few years after that I wanted to be a TV presenter – I wasn’t a shy child!

How did your current job come about? Having recently moved back to the UK from living and working in Spain and armed with extensive teaching and industry experience I applied for a position at The International Dermal Institute in Surrey. That was 22 years ago. After 19 months working at our Hampton Court offices I had a company transfer to Australia to set up the education arm of dermalogica in Sydney, Australia. After a few years of focusing just on Australia I was promoted to Education Manager for the Asia Pacific region.

Explain your usual day? My days are extremely varied as I am out of the office frequently. A day in the office consists of addressing various emails, attending meetings, working closely with my managers to see the smooth operation of the education department (we have 5 training centres around the country), managing and supporting the needs of my team of which there are currently thirty five members.

I spend a lot of time writing presentations which I then deliver to both domestic and International audiences or at various trade shows and industry seminars around Australia. As one of the brands voices I am a frequent contributor to magazines, radio, websites, social media and T.V. I write articles for trade publications and blogs, I go out and see the beauty editors and bloggers on a regular basis and I also present our product launches to the media as well as to our customers. I travel a great deal with work both domestically and Internationally and am away on a very regular basis.

What ‘makes’ your day’? My day is made when I have accomplished all the tasks on my ‘to do list’ and my team go home feeling happy and fore filled.

Three products you can’t live without? This is a hard one, just three!!!
1. dermalogica Power Bright C12 Serum
2. dermalogica Power Rich
3. dermalogica Age Reversal Eye Complex

Fave perfume? Thierry Mugler Alien

What will you be doing 5 years’ time? I very much hope exactly the same thing.
